Objetivos Understand basic concepts, historical roots and cultural implications of new media.
Sensibilize for the differences and intersections between the disciplines and works of art and computer engineering.
Explore how both disciplines may contribute to one another. Learn to understand and use (interactive) art as a resource for technical innovation and evaluation.
Descripción Interactive digital artifacts as well as works of art embody and enable ways of thinking and (inter)acting (as shown for instance by activity theory). In this explorative class we will examine these ways of transaction. Starting from existing artifacts in their unique contexts of use and drawing back on historical lines of development we will “reverse engineer” their design paradigms, principles and assumptions to specify their possible contributions to the design and evaluation of upcoming art and interactive technologies.
