El Departamento de Física-FCFM de la Universidad de Chile retoma sus tradicionales seminarios y, este contexto de seminarios online, hemos privilegiado realizar seminarios donde se vayan revisando en profundidad diversos temas de la física contemporánea, para lo cual contaremos con expertos nacionales e internacionales.
En nuestro primer seminario de esta temporada, tendremos al destacado profesor Daan Frenkel, de la Universidad de Cambridge y medalla Boltzmann en 2016 por sus innumerables aportes a la mecánica estadística, quien presentará la charla
The Early History of Classical Simulations
Resumen:
In the early 1950s, electronic computers became available for non-military purposes. This enabled the development of many-body simulations, but that development is only obvious in retrospect. In my talk I will discuss some aspects of the early history of simulation and its inventors, some of whom are well known, but many others less so.
I will briefly discuss the uses of computer simulation, how it has grown, and what is changing. But, of course, like in a Molecular Dynamics simulation, the future is highly uncertain.
