- right to distribute copies and modified versions of a work
- requirement that the same rights be preserved in modified versions of the work
3) The notion of =Free Software= [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gratis\_versus\_libre]
- copyleft is a general method for
- making a program (or other work) free (libre), and
- requiring all modified and extended versions of the program to be free as well.
- This free does not necessarily mean
- free of cost (gratis), but
- free as in freely available to be modified.
2. Copyrights and Licences (including non copyleft licenses)

- an artificial monopoly to encourage editors to invest in good quality products

2. BSD License (BSD Advantages: [www.freebsd.org/ ... le.html#origins-gpl])
- this one is NOT copyleft
- it permits authors to
- get feedback and improvement from the community on their product, yet
- start a company with their code later.
3. Creative Commons ([creativecommons.org/])
- allows to define license in a modular and iconic way
- contain copyleft and non copyleft licenses
- extends the concept to all documents (not only programs)
